EBCI Natural Resources staff presented at Timber Committee today on our Brownfields Program, supervised by Derek Tahquette. We are currently working on inventorying our existing brownfields sites and developing capacity to fully assess them.

What is a brownfield? Any site that can’t be used or developed due to the presence of hazardous materials. To put it in more formal terms: “real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.”

Brownfields include sites with hazardous building materials, such as asbestos and lead paint, as well as sites with leaking underground storage tanks or other forms of contamination.
